Our Care & Community Placements in Romania

Volunteers in Romania work in foster homes, day care centres and orphanages in and around the city of Brasov. These centres tend to house up to twelve children. The orphaned children are 4 to 16 years old. With so many orphans, it is impossible for the staff to give each individual the care and attention they need in order to make a significant difference to their development. However, this is why volunteers are so important. They work between 4 and 8 hours each day, giving daily attention to the orphaned children. As well as organising activities such as song, dance, drama and sport, volunteers also teach some basic English to the slightly older children. The very young children simply need looking after and picking up regularly so that they feel loved.

The thing all the care placements have in common is that they are designed to help children who have precious few other people to whom they can turn. This work can be challenging, but it is also fun and enjoyable, and greatly appreciated by the children and staff. Probably the greatest value of a volunteer is to bring some fun into the lives of these children. Simply by being there, playing games, showing affection and providing some much needed love and attention you will be making an important contribution.

All volunteers taking part on Care & Community projects in Romania must now provide a Police Check letter showing that they do not have a criminal record. This is easily arranged at your local police station and we will provide advice on this when you apply. Please note that it can take up to 40 days to receive the letter.
